The Facts
Car seats can only be used for 6-7 years and then must be disposed of! The reason for this is the fact that the when the plastic is used in the hot car on a regular basis it begins to breakdown, causing the seat to loose its original strength. The solution for disposing of these car seats is to smash them so that they are no longer useable and someone cannot pick one out of a dumpster for use. This solution fixes the problem of people using unsafe seats for their children, but does not help with our growing landfills.
Picture piles and piles of old plastic car seats covering our earth. Something must be done to make a change; we cannot be throwing away this plastic and further polluting our planet. We must be recycling these seats.
Car Seats Expire – Yes, car seats have expiration dates. Due to their exposure to extreme conditions (like heat and sun), the plastic from which they are constructed generally degrades in five to six years. All car seats have expiration date stickers on them.
Car Seats Can’t Be Used After Accidents – This is why car seat reuse isn’t a popular option, since potential buyers are often unsure if a seat has been in a collision, which could weaken the safety structures in the seat.
1. Receive all makes and models of infant and child car seats - every expired, damaged, recalled or unuseable - along with a small fee to help cover our handling and dismantling expense costs of $25.00
2. Remove all fabric, smaller components like buckle latch plates, harness adjusters, locking clips, and the buckles
3. Send car seat shell composed of #5 plastic/Polypropylene to local plastics recycling company
